Meet Singspiration’s Staff
Jordan Van Biert, Executive Director
Jordan Van Biert is a choral conductor, clinician, singer and organization-builder based in Edmonton. He is Founding Artistic Director of Chronos Vocal Ensemble, Grand Prize winner in the 2015 National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs. He is Artistic Director of the community chorus Vocal Alchemy, which recently celebrated its 15th anniversary, and the daytime choir Ante Meridiem. He is also Director of Music at Trinity Lutheran Church. An experienced choral singer, he has regularly appeared with Alberta’s professional choirs.
In 2016 he was nominated as an Emerging Artist in Edmonton’s Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts, and later honoured with the Con Spirito award by Choir Alberta, which recognizes the “spirit and dedication of individuals and their commitment to choral music in their local community.” This is Jordan’s sixth season directing Singspiration, driven by a passion for the growth of choral singing for all ages.
Deanna Yerichuk, Inspiration for Teachers Coordinator
Recently graduated from the University of Toronto with a PhD in music education, Deanna Yerichuk has led music classes for children and youth, and helped prepare university students in their own paths to becoming music teachers. Deanna, who is trained as a singer and conductor, also teaches private and group voice lessons from her home studio. She is a Visiting Researcher in Elementary Education at the University of Alberta, and sits on the Arts Curriculum Working Group to redesign the K-12 provincial curriculum.
David McCune, Program Assistant
David McCune is poised to graduate from The King’s University with a Bachelor’s of Music in Voice Performance. An active choral singer, he has worked with choirs across Alberta as a singer and vocal coach, and in 2016 appeared with both the National Youth Choir of Canada and the World Youth Choir. When not singing, he spends his time reading books and playing goalie with his ball hockey team.
David attended Singspiration for many years as a camper, and this is his second year as a staff member. He is excited to be a part of the Singspiration experience for another year.
Genevieve Labbe, Head Counselor
Genevieve Labbe is a recent graduate of the Campus Saint-Jean Elementary Education program and is excited about pursuing a career in music education. As a French horn enthusiast, Genevieve has played with Horns A’ Plenty French Horn Choir, the University of Alberta Concert Band and is a current member of the Edmonton Youth Orchestra. Working for Singspiration in 2016 and taking university vocal lessons helped renew her love of singing, and she is thrilled to be returning to the counselor team for a second year! In her downtime, Genevieve enjoys perfecting her French, doing yoga and spending time with family and friends.
Our Singspiration counsellor team are instrumental in making camp the awesome experience that it is for young people! These dedicated individuals spend the week of camp with the Singspiration campers, staying overnight, supervising meals and activities, planning social times and assisting with the running of camp. We have openings for counsellors at Singspiration 2017, as well as opportunities for volunteers to take on various tasks throughout the week. Counsellor positions are paid, and we invite applications from individuals who:
- have experience with kids,
- have an interest in music,
- have a positive attitude,
- are available for the week of August 14-19,
- are over 18, and
- did not participate as a camper in Singspiration 2016.
All counsellors and volunteers who work with minors must also pass a criminal record check.
Interested? Email firstname.lastname@example.org for an application form. The deadline is May 5, 2017.
